Elementum Animal Welfare Policy
Animal Welfare Policy
Elementum's purpose is to power positive change. We apply sustainable principles in fashion and we do so ethically. We believe that sustainability is not about making products, but is truly about building relationships. The design of our clothes are based on the relationships we create, build and develop. We care about the materials we choose and their impact on the planet, we care for the people that make our clothes and those beautiful humans that will wear our clothes. We prioritize the quality of the fibers and the making process. We abide by sustainable and ethical goals that respect and care for the welfare of the planet, the people and the animals.
At Elementum we believe animals have the right to be treated with care. Animal welfare is very important to us, and no animals should be harmed in the making of our products. Therefore, we expect our supply partners to abide by the internationally accepted Five Freedoms (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_freedoms) of animal welfare:
Five Freedoms
-
Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
-
Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
-
Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
-
Freedom to Express Normal Behavior- by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
-
Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering. To ensure this, we strive to implement standards protecting the welfare of animals and providing traceability from the farm to the final product.
Under no circumstances do we accept any material from exotic, threatened or endangered species as defined by CITES (https://cites.org/eng) and the IUCN red list (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
In addition, we offer our customers the choice to select non-animal based alternatives.
Elementum expects all suppliers to conduct their operations in a responsible way, and make every effort to comply with this policy.
