Our Focus/ strategy

Sustainability Designate

Sustainability lives in the  heart of everything Elementum creates. We truly understand its complexity.   Because of this, we realize that sometimes we need to rely on other’s expertise, knowledge and guidance. Last year we decided to work with a third part to help us improve our sustainability commitments including, but not limited to:internal and external procedures, documentation and communication.

Elementum  has an internal designate, Daniela Pais Luxembourg, but also has drawn upon the expertise of a third party, Moda Circolare, a sustainable fashion consulting agency.

Moda Circolare has over 20 years of experience in sustainability, environmental risk and sustainable fashion. Know more about Moda Circulare at www.modacircolare.com

Inspection program

Elementum’s production is fair and for the most part, local. We are based in Portugal and this is where o most of our production and manufacturing occurs. Our production chain is highly simplified. We focus on positive collaboration with our suppliers and keep the process close to us. 50% of our production is made in our Elementum studio and the other half is produced in small family businesses located in Portugal and in The Netherlands. We know all our suppliers and work with them in person, visiting them regularly.

We currently conduct our own inspection program where we have established long term relationships so that we can ensure product quality and good labour conditions.

We inspect our suppliers and manufacturers annually. This inspection is reviewed by our 3rd party expert, Moda Circolare. Our sustainability team uses our Vendor Code of Ethics (VCoE) and our tailored inspection form to conduct assessments at our existing facilities.

We inspect  our Cut and Sew Facilities and Raw Material Mills. Our inspection includes such items as:

Social / Ethical Issues - violations involving, child labour, forced labor, health and safety, freedom of association and collective bargaining, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours, remuneration, management system and Environmental Issues – air pollution control, water pollution control, noise control, waste management, storage of chemicals and dangerous goods, resource conservation and emergency preparedness and response.

Training

We strongly believe that training, education and research are consistently required  in  order to better apply our sustainable principles and improve our ongoing company commitments.

We are a small team but we are keen on being well informed.  Together with our collaborators we participate in training activities to improve our knowledge and actions in the field of sustainability, sustainable fashion, diversity and inclusion.
