Portuguese Designer Daniela Pais founded Elementum in 2007 as a part of her MA studies in Humanitarian Design and Sustainable Living at Design Academy Eindhoven. A year later she established her independent sustainable design studio in the Netherlands and founded the brand Elementum. Since 2017 is based in Portugal where she continues to develop Elementum, teaches in design schools, and consults companies about future trends and sustainability.
With 2020 in the house, we asked Elementum founder and designer Daniela Pais to share with us her thoughts about the new year and reflect with us on January, the time for new beginnings. She took us back to her back, to the start of 2007 and to the beginning of Elementum - her Master's thesis 'Clothing Species'.
A little while ago we visited our friends Miguel Neto and Paula Violante, both inspiring and amazing ceramists, for an autumn photoshoot in their studio. We wanted to learn a bit more about them, their inspirations, their work and may be a little more about the connection between fashion and ceramics.
Enjoy.
We had a chance to meet Leonor and her inspiring studio in Porto. After few works as Graphic and Textile designer ELLEONOR started her solo project in 2014, as Designer and Artist, followed by the curiosity and exploration of different areas of creation, strong colors and irregular shapes... We completely fell in love with her work...
Elementum and Yuka Okada met each other in a sustainable fashion event in Tokyo. Since then their friendship has grown, personally and professionally. We asked a few questions to our dear friend and collaborator, Yuka, owner of INHEELS, a Japanese sustainable fashion brand and also co-founder of a creative residency in Tokyo called Almost Perfect.
